Not tatting but...

I know that a lot of you crochet also and do other crafts. I would love to make this dress but the material used is fingering yarn. I have no idea how big is fingering yarn and I would like to know how many strands of crochet #10 could be use to substitute the yarn. Or if you know of a similar pattern made in crochet thread I'll appreciate the info!

It's the same as baby weight or sock weight...., not sure about size equivalent to number though

I would guess 2 strands but don't hold me to it. The pattern should include info on gauge. Change your hook size until your work matches the measurements in those instructions. I think it would be beautiful in thread and probably last longer.

Fingering weight is a fine yarn, maybe equal to a crochet cotton 3. Check the hook sized used, and compare it to the recommended size on the crochet cotton.

There's a cute little dress pattern here: http://www.craftown.com/baby/pat12.htm

Make a couple of swatches with varying numbers of strands of #10 thread and check the gauge against the pattern. I'm guessing 2 strands of size 10 thread.
